Corrections is close to the half-way mark in our goal to reduce re-offending by 25% by 2017. The latest figures show we have achieved an 11.8% reduction in re-offending and expect to reach the half-way mark by June 2014. An 11.8% reduction is impressive, especially when you look at what this figure actually means:
- 2,167 fewer offenders
- 8,600 fewer victims
Corrections’ Central Region (which stretches from Te Kauwhata to Turangi) has already passed the half-way mark, having reduced re-offending by 14.7%, or 570 offenders and the Northern Region (everything above Te Kauwhata) is also there, sitting at 13.1% and 636 fewer offenders.
