Corrections has released a refreshed version of its organisational strategy Hōkai Rangi.
The first iteration of Hōkai Rangi, released in August 2019, expressed our commitment to delivering better outcomes with and for people we manage, their whānau, and our communities. It identified our long-term vision and defined our plan to help achieve our objectives.
Since then, we have worked hard to reflect and build on what we have learnt, to ensure our strategy remains fit-for-purpose into the future. Hōkai Rangi continues to represent our long-term strategic direction. We all want to see intergenerational change where each person can realise their full potential – for themselves and for the safety of our communities. Research, data, and evidence continues to inform our approach to achieving these outcomes.
Our refreshed Hōkai Rangi strategy identifies three organisational outcomes: improved public safety, reduced reoffending, and reduced Māori overrepresentation.
Our new purpose statement is: We make the community safer by supporting people to leave us better and with brighter prospects.
We have retained our six Pou which guide our work:
- Partnership and Leadership - We value the relationships we have built with our strategic partners. We strive to work collaboratively with Māori.
- Humanising and Healing - We support and uplift the mana and dignity of everyone we manage.
- Whānau - We support whānau to walk alongside their loved ones during their rehabilitation and reintegration journey.
- Whakapapa - We work knowing that whakapapa can be the beginning of healing and wellbeing.
- Incorporating a Te Ao Māori worldview - We enable access to culture as a fundamental right, not a privilege. We work to provide equitable access to cultural activities for all.
- Foundations for Participation - We help people to better participate in society and live offence-free lives.
Under the refreshed version of Hōkai Rangi, we’ll use our Organisational Roadmap to show our future direction and priorities. Within each overarching priority area, the Organisational Roadmap will outline initiatives that are aligned to Hōkai Rangi and our three organisational outcomes and will evolve over time. It will inform strategic planning, enabling us to prioritise ideas and opportunities that will have the greatest positive impact.
Our people remain committed to improving the wellbeing of the people we manage, to reducing reoffending, and to keeping our communities safe.
