Internal, directed and specified

These procedures cover the following:

  • Managing prisoner movements, unlock regimes and prisoner work-party handover
  • Prisoners at-risk of themselves
  • Segregation of prisoners

These procedures are designed to ensure that:

  • movements are co-ordinated, documented, supervised and managed to ensure prisoner safety and compliance with custodial requirements and re-integrative services.
  • prisoners at-risk to themselves are identified on reception and are managed to minimise their risk of self-harm.
  • request for segregation are completed appropriately and the directions and recommendations.

Security classification

These procedures cover the following:

These procedures are designed to ensure that:

  • Sentenced prisoners are contained at level of supervision appropriate to the level of internal and external risk that a prisoner poses
  • the security classification assigned to a prisoner reflects, the level of risk posed by that prisoner while inside or outside prison.
  • Initial classification is assigned within 14 days of a prisoner receiving a sentence of imprisonment.
  • Every security classification is reviewed at least once every six months during the course of the prisoner's sentence.

Specified gender and age movements

These procedures cover the following:

  • Male prisoner under 20 years old
  • Female and pregnant prisoners
  • Feeding and bonding facilities
  • Self-care units for female prisoners

These procedures are designed to ensure that specified prisoners are accommodated within the appropriate facilities.

External Movements (Transportation) of prisoners

  1. The purpose of the section is to manage prisoners' escorts safely, humanely and securely moved, escorted or transferred while minimising risk to prisoners, staff and the general public and includes:
    1. Health escorts

    4. Separation matrix
    5. Wheel-chair, ferry, aircraft, transport transfer policies
  2. These procedures are designed to ensure that:
    1. temporary release, release to work and temporary removal are coordinated, documented, supervised and managed to ensure prisoner safety and compliance with custodial requirements and re-integrative services.
    2. prisoners at-risk to themselves are identified on reception and are managed to minimise their risk of self-harm.
